Moving into my teens as a young Black man in Orange County, California, I felt repeatedly isolated and disconnected with myself. With only 2 percent of the population of Orange County identifying as Black, I struggled to find my identity and express myself. Through my unique relationship between art, music, and skateboarding, I was able to use them as tools of self discovery and expression.
Almost a decade ago, I began making collages. I quickly realized that the medium of art spoke to me unlike any other has. By utilizing source material from magazines, books, and newspapers, the idea of creating a story or conveying an idea/feeling through the photos of other stories captivated me. Collage art has served as an impperative means to express my own emotions and tell stories.
I have always aimed to highlight stories and feelings from the Black community. Being Black has allowed me to carry on the culure and history of the most beautiful people on Earth. Bringing awareness of Afro-centered issues and cultural aspects has been among the biggest driving force for me as an artist.
Mental health and psycholgy is another passion and consistant theme behind my art. After majoring in Psychology, the importance of people learning more about their own mind was cemented in me. I am enamored by the prospect of showing people more about how we think through art and exploring the connection between the mind and the work I create.
